Director of Materials and Supply Chain

We are one of the largest manufacturers of private label and contract products for various types of OTC Care, Personal Care & Home Care Products and associated chemicals.

The Director of Materials is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction and continual improvement of the supply chain function which includes purchasing, sourcing, commodity strategy, supplier management, material planning, material storage, material replenishment, production scheduling, production job release, goods receiving and shipping. This senior role is part of the Operations leadership team, reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.


  • Defining, communicating and rolling out supply chain strategy
  • Purchasing commodity strategy development and deployment
  • Sourcing and rationalizing of suppliers for best cost (including cost of quality & performance)
  • Negotiation of supplier agreements and contracts
  • Supply chain cost down planning and management
  • Lead on any outsourcing or major re-sourcing activities
  • Support to Sales, Quality Control and or Marketing for  product change and new product introductions related to supply chain activities
  • Supplier management – performance (quality, delivery, cost) and communications
  • Working with Quality department to ensure supplier quality requirements are met
  • Purchase Order and Invoice query management
  • MRP planning, demand and supply data accuracy
  • Production planning and job (works order) release
  • Material scheduling and replenishment (internal & external), including use of Lean process, vendor managed inventory and consignment stock
  • Inventory control and accuracy
  • Kitting and line side storage replenishment
  • Goods receiving and checking of delivered product
  • Assist Operations Director or any other member of Operations Leadership team as needed
  • Other project or business activities needed or requested by the company
  • Work within production constraints to maximize completion of customer orders
  • Familiarity with working in a Food and/or Pharmaceutical manufacturing environment especially FDA 21 CFR Part 211 and British Retail Consortium requirements.
  • Maintains compliance with established policies and procedures 


  • Minimum 4 year degree in related field. MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in an MRP/ERP environment. Experience in the Pharmaceutical/Beauty/Healthcare consumer products supply required.
  • Relationship builder – ability to judge people and modify behaviors to build professional and trusting relationship.
  • Excellent Communication skills – able to communicate effectively at all levels through clear & concise written, verbal and formal presentations approaches.
  • Demonstrates and promotes open dialogue; welcoming, listening to and accommodating others input.
  • Able to negotiate and mediate.
  • Excellent leadership qualities with ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Experience in managing a supply chain team and varying aspects of the role – purchasing, materials management, planning and logistics.
  • Commercially astute and contract savvy.
  • Negotiation experience in supply contracts a significant advantage.
  • Experience in ISO9001 requirements related to Supply Chain.
  • Good working knowledge of MRP/ERP and the way these interface into Supply Chain processes.
  • Comfortable with normal business IT systems – Microsoft office etc.
