R&D Director of Home Care (Surface Care) Product Formulation


  • Formulate a variety of home care products (surfactants, soap, disinfectants)
  • Be ahead of the curve with new formulas that use less harsh ingredients
  • Massive understanding of preservatives and EPA disinfect formulations.
  • Help develop, provide, and maintain project tracking documentation to the R&D staff.
  • Works with department personnel, marketing, sales, and outside departments to identify new and innovative product opportunities to bring those products to the market by leading projects through the new product development stage through product launch.
  • Provides technical services to other departments
  • Provides technical backup to sales staff on customer calls, and summits
  • Ensures financial viability of projects and that product development timelines are met.
  • Work closely with cross functional team members (sales, regulatory, etc.) to identify trends and market opportunities and help establish product development strategies for specific markets.
  • Must be a team player and work well with cross functional departments.
  • Evaluates competitor products to maintain a competitive advantage over
  • Identifies opportunities for new intellectual property.
  • Constantly looks for opportunities to improve R&D processes, accelerate speed to market and reduce costs.
  • Builds strong working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Selects, along with purchasing, External Manufacturers when needed.
  • Assist the QA Group in effective manufacturing, pilot and scale up optimization and transfer to the manufacturing group
  • Ability to work with product engineering
  • Accountability for all product & formula innovations that lead to better performing products with a strong focus on lowering formula cost via re-formulation
  • External collaboration with large fortune 500 chemical and product suppliers

Required Qualifications:

  • Working experience in Home Care products.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in home care research and development preferred.
  • Regulatory experience as it relates to USEPA disinfectants.
  • Computer Skills – Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Product Development Areas: Laundry & Dish Detergents, Laundry PODS, Hard Surface Cleaners, Bleach, Wipes, Fabric Softeners, Assorted in wash products
  • Experience in label approvals
  • Education: Masters’ Degree in Chemistry or a Life Science with Chemistry Background.
